I began stitching at about age five, emulating my grandmother and mother, who stitched creatively. Consequently, it felt quite natural to begin making needle art. However, I never thought of the sequin as a possible art medium until I saw the beautiful Sacred Arts of Haitian Vodou exhibition at the Fowler Museum at UCLA in 1966.
